Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL dry fly, 8-10
- Thread Orange 6/0
Materials
- Dubbing / Ice Dub Burnt orange (body)
- 2mm foam Tan / brown mm foam (foam shellback)
- Deer or elk hair Natural deer hair (down wing)
- Dry hackle Brown hackle (front collar)
How to tie it
- Start thread at the bend and tie in a strip of 2mm foam by one end, pointing to the rear.
- Dub a full burnt-orange body forward to the 70% mark.
- Pull the foam forward over the top as a buoyant shellback and bind it down at the 70% mark; leave a short tab or trim.
- Stack deer hair and tie in a down wing over the back reaching the bend.
- Wind 2-3 turns of brown hackle as a front collar and tie off.
- Whip finish at the eye and cement.
