Classic Recipe

Materials

  • Bead Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Body Burnt orange dubbing (full)
  • Rib Brown D-Rib (segmenting)
  • Collar Dark hare's ear (rough)
  • Legs Brown partridge (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a black or copper bead to the eye and mount the curved nymph hook. Start orange thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a length of brown D-Rib at the bend to hang for the rib.
  3. Dub a full, fat burnt-orange body forward to the thorax. This is a big fall pupa, so build it plump.
  4. Wrap the D-Rib forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns to segment the body, then tie off and trim.
  5. Dub a rough, shaggy collar of dark hare's ear behind the bead, picking it out buggy.
  6. Tie in a sparse brown partridge feather and take 1-2 turns for legs, then sweep the fibers back.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
