On a needle, build the body first: lay an orange foam strip and bind it in segments, two soft compressing wraps then 4-5 firm wraps per segment, until you have about 6 segments; half-hitch and slide the foam body off the needle.
Slide the foam body onto the hook, pushing the point through the front so it seats along the shank; start orange thread.
Tie in a brown saddle hackle and palmer it through the exposed thorax in open turns.
Stack a clump of elk hair and tie it in as a down wing over the body, reaching the bend.
Tie a strip of tan foam forward over the front as a head/lip, then trim the nose to length and trim the side edges.
Whip finish in front of the tan foam and cement the wraps.
