Materials

  • Zelon / Antron yarn Amber / tan zelon antron yarn (trailing shuck tail)
  • Superfine dubbing Mayfly color (BWO/PMD/drake) (body)
  • Deer hair Natural dun deer hair (comparadun wing)
  • Dry hackle Dun or grizzly rooster hackle (sparse collar)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and tie in a sparse tuft of amber Zelon at the 75% mark, trailing back a shank length as the nymphal shuck.
  2. Dub a slim tapered abdomen from the shuck forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Clean and stack a small clump of deer hair and tie it in upright at the 65% mark as a comparadun wing fanned across the top.
  4. Tie in a dry hackle at the wing base, then dub a short thorax to just behind the eye.
  5. Wind 2-3 sparse turns of hackle around the thorax and wing base, just enough for float and a leggy footprint, and tie off.
  6. Whip finish at the eye and add a tiny drop of cement.
