Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved grub/buzzer hook (e.g. Kamasan B100), 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead / nugget Black bead (1)
  • Tying thread Black thread (body)
  • Holographic tinsel or fine wire Red holographic tinsel (rib)
  • Holographic tinsel Orange holographic tinsel (cheeks / wing buds)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a black tungsten bead to the eye and start black thread behind it.
  2. Lay a smooth, slim thread body from behind the bead around the bend and back. A buzzer should look starved.
  3. Tie in red holographic rib and spiral it down and back up in 5-6 open turns to segment the body; tie off.
  4. Coat the body with thin UV resin or head cement for a glossy, durable finish.
  5. Tie in two short slips of orange holo tinsel as cheeks angled along each side of the thorax.
  6. Wind a small peacock thorax between the cheeks and behind the bead, whip finish, and add a drop of resin.
