Nymph · Trout · Steelhead · Intermediate · 3 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook, barbless (e.g. Fulling Mill Jig Force Short), 12
  • Thread Fluorescent orange 6/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Fluorescent orange (or peach) (1 (3/16" / 4.6mm))
  • Flexi Squishenille UV Fluorescent orange (or shrimp pink) (body)

How to tie it

  1. Slot a fluorescent-orange tungsten bead onto the jig hook, seat it against the eye, and start thread behind it.
  2. Run the thread to the bend in touching turns to build a smooth base the squishenille can grip.
  3. Tie in a length of Flexi Squishenille at the bend by its core, leaving the rubber-legged fibers free.
  4. Wrap the squishenille forward in touching turns to just behind the bead, stroking the fibers back out of each wrap so none get trapped.
  5. Tie off tight behind the bead and snip the excess core.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead, then trim the squishenille to a rough even blob if bulky.
