No See Um Green Drake

Dry Fly · Midge · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly, straight eye, 10-12
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Superfine dubbing Green drake / olive (abdomen)
  • Deer hair Natural dun deer hair (wing clump)
  • Tying thread Olive thread (underbody)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread and dub a full, slightly tapered olive green-drake abdomen from the bend to the 65% mark.
  2. Stack a clump of deer hair and tie it in upright at the 65% mark, tips forward, banking turns against the front to post it.
  3. Fan the wing into a 180° comparadun across the top so the fly sits flush in the surface.
  4. Dub a sparse thorax and figure-8 it around the wing base to lock the wing upright.
  5. Form a small head, whip finish, and cement.
