Dry Fly · Midge · Trout · Beginner · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard dry fly, straight eye, 10-12
- Thread Brown 8/0
Materials
- Superfine dubbing Brown drake / chocolate (abdomen)
- Deer hair Natural brown/dun deer hair (wing clump)
- Tying thread Brown thread (underbody)
How to tie it
- Start thread and dub a slim, tapered brown-drake abdomen from the bend forward to the 65% mark.
- Clean and stack a clump of deer hair and tie it in standing upright at the 65% mark, tips forward, then post it with banked turns.
- Fan the wing into a 180° comparadun across the top of the shank so the body sits flush in the film.
- Dub a short thorax and figure-8 around the wing base to seat it upright. Keep the dubbing sparse.
- Build a small head, whip finish, and add a drop of cement.
