Build a thread base, then tie in a trimmed tan saddle hackle tail, kept short and light for a good swimming motion.
Cut a wedge of 2mm tan foam about two-and-a-half inches long (an inch to an inch-and-a-half longer than the shank) and tie it on top of the shank in roughly 1/8-inch increments to build a floating underbody; tie down the rear of the foam cleanly.
Tie in a mocha-brown synthetic zonker strip at the back by a prepped corner.
Invert the hook. Tie in two joined medium golden-stone rubber legs just ahead of the hook point, facing back, on the underside.
Advance and tie in the front legs (slightly shorter), facing back and angled down, on the underside.
Palmer the zonker strip forward, combing the fibers back with each wrap to fill the shank up to behind the eye; anchor with a thread loop and locking wraps.
Fold the foam back over the top and wrap a small nose/head; whip finish and add head cement or liquid fusion.
Trim the foam ears square, split and trim the legs, and add small stick-on eyes.
