Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL nymph hook (e.g. TMC 5262), #10-14
  • Thread olive 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Woolly bugger marabou Brown marabou (short tail)
  • Woolly bugger marabou Olive marabou (body)
  • Mono rib Clear (3-4X) mono (1 strand)
  • Hard mono Clear (16 lb) (splayed eyes)
  • SLF dubbing Damsel olive (head/thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the bend and tie in a sparse brown marabou tail about a half shank long, a short, wiggling damsel tail.
  2. Tie in a length of 3-4X mono for the rib.
  3. Wrap olive marabou forward as a slim, tapered body to the 75% mark.
  4. Counter-rib the mono forward in 5-6 turns to lock the soft body, then tie off.
  5. Tie a short length of 16 lb hard mono crosswise near the front as splayed damsel eyes, figure-8'd to set them.
  6. Dub an olive SLF head and thorax around and behind the eyes.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and cement.
