Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry hook (e.g. TMC 100), #14-20
  • Thread to match body (olive/gray) 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Microfibbets / hackle fibers Dun microfibbets (split tail)
  • Superfine dubbing To match hatch (body + thorax)
  • Duck quill slips Dun duck quill slips (2 matched (wings))

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a split tail: divide the fibers into two bunches one shank long, splayed into a wide V. Tails and body are the only flotation, so splay them well.
  3. Dub a slim, tapered body forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Cut two matched duck-quill slips and tie them low along each side (sidewinder style) at 70%, curving apart and standing about one shank tall.
  5. Figure-8 dubbing around the wing bases to lock and separate them.
  6. Dub a slim thorax to the eye.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
