Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard dry hook (e.g. TMC 100), #16-18
  • Thread pale yellow 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Microfibbets Light dun hackle fibers or microfibbets (split tail)
  • Superfine dubbing Pale yellow-olive (PMD) (body + thorax)
  • Duck quill slips Light dun duck quill slips (2 matched (wings))

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a split tail of light dun fibers one shank long, splayed into a wide V.
  3. Dub a slim, tapered pale-yellow-olive PMD body to the 70% mark.
  4. Tie two matched light-dun duck-quill slips low on each side (sidewinder), curving apart and standing about one shank tall.
  5. Figure-8 dubbing at the wing bases to set and separate them.
  6. Dub a short thorax to the eye.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
