Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook barbless jig hook, #12-16
  • Thread olive or black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1 (to hook size))
  • Lead-free wire Silver lead free wire (few turns)
  • Body dubbing / braid Caddis green (abdomen)
  • Wire rib Fine gold (1 strand)
  • Ice dub / hare Brown dubbing (thorax)
  • CDC feather Natural dun cdc feather (1 (collar))

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead to the eye of the jig hook and add a few turns of lead-free wire behind it for extra sink.
  2. Start the thread and tie in a fine wire rib at the bend.
  3. Dub or wrap a plump, tapered caddis-green abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire rib in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Dub a buggy contrasting thorax behind the bead.
  6. Spin a CDC feather in a dubbing loop (or tie it in by the tip) and wrap 2-3 turns as a soft, mobile collar behind the bead.
  7. Sweep the CDC fibers back, whip finish behind the bead, and cement.
