Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook barbless competition jig hook, #14-18
- Thread PMD / tan 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Slotted tungsten bead Gold/copper bead (1 (to hook size))
- Coq de Leon fibers Natural coq de leon fibers (short tail)
- Thread body PMD/tan (mottled) (abdomen)
- Hot-spot thread Fluor orange (collar)
- UV resin Clear uv resin (body coat)
How to tie it
- Slide the slotted tungsten bead to the eye of the jig hook and start the thread.
- Tie in a short fan of Coq de Leon fibers at the bend, about a half shank long.
- Build a slim, smooth, tapered PMD/tan thread body up to just behind the bead, keeping it needle-thin. A perdigon sinks on profile, not bulk.
- Optional: mark a dark wingcase/thorax spot on top with a fine marker for the mottled look.
- Add a couple of turns of fluorescent orange as a hot-spot collar behind the bead.
- Whip finish behind the bead.
- Coat the whole body and collar in a thin layer of UV resin and cure to a hard, fast-sinking shell.
