How to tie it
Start the thread at the 75% point and lay a thread base back to the bend.
Tie in a length of amber Z-lon on top of the shank at the bend and trim the shuck to about three-quarters of a shank length.
Cut a point on the end of a strip of 2mm foam and tie it in at the bend, pulling the wraps tight and lifting the foam so there is no gap between the back of the foam and the tail. Trim the rear stub.
Dub the abdomen forward with peacock Super Bright in a couple of clumps, keeping it reasonably smooth, up to about the two-thirds to three-quarters point.
Bring the foam forward over the top of the abdomen, lock it down with a couple of tight wraps, then work the thread forward to the eye binding the foam down.
Tie in a cleaned and stacked clump of bleached deer hair as an underwing extending to about the back of the fly (two loose wraps, pull tight, then several firm wraps) and clip all the butt ends off.
Tie a small bunch of white Congo hair over the top as an overwing, cut to about the same length as the deer hair wing, for visibility.
Drape a silicone leg over the thread and position one on each side of the fly (rotate the vise a half turn to do the far side the same way).
Add a touch more peacock dubbing to tidy the front, fold the foam back over the top and lock it down with a few tight wraps.
Whip finish three or four turns, cut the thread, then trim the foam head to length and even up the legs and any stray fibers.
