  • Hook 2XL curved scud hook (e.g. TMC 2457), #14-18
  • Thread olive or black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Black tungsten bead Black bead (1 (to hook size))
  • Lead-free wire Silver lead free wire (few turns)
  • Antron Cream/white antron (short tuft (tail))
  • Fino / thin skin Olive thin skin mottled (shellback)
  • STS / sow-scud dubbing Caddis green (abdomen)
  • Mono rib Clear weed guard (1 strand)
  • Ostrich herl Black or brown ostrich herl (2-3 (thorax/legs))

How to tie it

  1. Slide the black tungsten bead on and add a few turns of lead-free wire behind it.
  2. Start the thread and tie in a short tuft of cream Antron at the bend as the trailing 'net.'
  3. Tie in a strip of olive Fino/thin skin (shellback) and a length of fine mono rib at the bend.
  4. Dub a plump caddis-green abdomen forward to the 70% mark.
  5. Pull the Fino skin over the top as a glossy shellback and bind it behind the bead.
  6. Counter-wrap the mono rib in 5-6 turns to segment and lock the back, then tie off.
  7. Tie in 2-3 ostrich herls and wind a short, wispy thorax collar behind the bead for legs.
  8. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
