Neon Nightmare

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-short curved scud hook (e.g. TMC 2488H, heavy), #16-22
  • Thread fluorescent pink or orange 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Fluorescent thread Pink or orange fluorescent thread (body)
  • Fine wire Silver or red fine wire (rib)
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (body coat)

How to tie it

  1. Start the fluorescent thread behind the eye and lay a smooth, thin base to the bend. The heavy 2488H hook is the only weight, so keep it slim.
  2. Tie in a strand of fine wire at the bend.
  3. Wrap the thread forward into a smooth, slightly tapered body to just behind the eye.
  4. Counter-wrap the wire rib forward in 6-7 evenly spaced turns, then helicopter it to break and tie off.
  5. Optional: build a tiny black thread thorax collar behind the eye.
  6. Whip finish and snip.
  7. Coat the entire body bone-dry-thin with UV resin and cure for a shiny, exoskeleton look.
