Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2x-long nymph, beadhead, 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Gold bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Brown goose biots Brown goose biots (2 for tail)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (3-4 for body)
  • Mylar tinsel Gold / pearl mylar tinsel (1 strand for rib)
  • White goose biots White goose biots (2 for wings)
  • Hen or soft hackle Brown / furnace hen or soft hackle (1 for collar)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold bead to the eye and start the thread behind it. Tie in two brown goose biots at the bend, splayed in a V for the tail.
  2. Tie in a strand of mylar tinsel and three or four peacock herls at the bend.
  3. Wrap the peacock herl forward as a plump body to just behind the bead and tie off.
  4. Counter-wrap the mylar tinsel forward in four or five open turns as a flashy rib, then tie off and clip.
  5. Tie in two white goose biots flat over the back in a shallow V for the wings, tips reaching the mid-body.
  6. Tie in a brown hen or soft hackle and take two turns as a collar, sweep the fibers back, whip finish behind the bead and cement.
