Nymph · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2x-long nymph, 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Muskrat fur dubbing Natural gray muskrat dubbing (body and thorax)
  • Black ostrich herl Black ostrich herl (1-2 for head)
  • Guinea or hen hackle fibers Black / dark guinea or hen hackle fibers (small beard)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and dub a slim, tapered body of gray muskrat fur from the bend forward to the 65% mark, keeping it thin at the rear.
  2. Dub the thorax a little heavier over the front third, stopping just short of the eye.
  3. Tie in a small sparse beard of dark guinea or hen fibers under the throat, reaching to the hook point.
  4. Tie in one or two black ostrich herls and wrap two or three turns as a dark head collar behind the eye.
  5. Whip finish and add a tiny drop of cement.
