Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap stinger hook, 1/0-2/0
  • Thread White GSP / 100 denier

Materials

  • Bucktail White + contrasting top (2 clumps for tail)
  • Flashabou / Krystal Flash Pearl / holo (10-14 strands)
  • Estaz / Ice chenille Pearl cactus chenille (1 collar)
  • Deer belly hair Natural / dyed to match deer belly hair (1 patch for head)
  • 3-D adhesive eyes - (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in a white bucktail belly clump at the mid-shank, then a contrasting darker clump on top; add a generous pinch of flash for the long, flashy tail.
  2. Wrap a pearl Estaz collar just ahead of the tail to add bulk and sparkle.
  3. Cut, clean and stack a bundle of deer belly hair; lay it across the shank ahead of the Estaz, take two soft turns and pull tight so it flares and spins around the shank.
  4. Spin and pack successive bundles forward to the eye, cramming each tight against the last for a dense head.
  5. Whip finish at the eye and cement, then pull the fly and trim the deer hair to a rounded slider/bullet head, flat on the bottom.
  6. Glue a 3-D eye to each side of the trimmed head.
