Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap stinger / streamer hook, 2-2/0
  • Thread White 6/0

Materials

  • Lead-free wire - (underbody wraps)
  • Bucktail or synthetic hair White + chartreuse (contrasting) bucktail or synthetic hair (2 clumps for tail)
  • Krystal Flash / Flashabou Pearl flashabou (6-10 strands)
  • Marabou Chartreuse / contrasting marabou (1-2 plumes for skirt)
  • Estaz or Ice Dub Pearl ice dub (collar)
  • 3-D adhesive eyes - (1 pair)
  • UV resin - (for head)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a band of lead-free wire over the front third of the shank for sink rate and start the thread over it.
  2. Tie in a white belly clump of bucktail or synthetic hair at the mid-shank, one and a half shank lengths long, then a contrasting chartreuse clump on top; add several strands of pearl flash.
  3. Wind a marabou plume as a soft collar/skirt behind the wire to give the fly its breathing, tapering baitfish profile.
  4. Wrap a short pearl Estaz or dubbed collar in front of the marabou to build the head base.
  5. Whip finish at the eye and set a 3-D eye on each side of the head.
  6. Coat the head and eyes with UV resin and cure to lock everything in.
