Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Ahrex NS172 Curved Gammarus, 4
  • Thread White Veevus GSP 100D (lightly waxed)

Materials

  • Nayat (snow runner) underfur (lateral line) Black ostrich herl (thin piece ~2.5 in)
  • Sparkle dubbing (gill cover) Orange ice dub (small pinch)
  • Bucktail (back) Tan/minnow (small clump)
  • Squimpish Hair Mulch (small clump)
  • Bucktail (belly) White bucktail (small clump)
  • Tape eyes, 6mm - (1 pair)
  • Permanent marker Brown permanent marker (-)
  • UV resin (Deer Creek Fine Flex) Clear uv resin (-)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base along the shank.
  2. Tie in a thin piece of black nayat underfur about two-and-a-half inches long down the middle for the black lateral line, and trim the excess.
  3. Cover the white thread just behind the eye with a pinch of orange sparkle dubbing for a gill-cover suggestion.
  4. Tie in a sparse clump of tan/minnow bucktail on top for the back, keeping it about a centimetre short of the nayat tip and flat over the top; use only a little.
  5. Tie in a small blended clump of Squimpish Hair in mulch over the top, tapered, the same length as the black nayat.
  6. Turn the hook over and tie in a small clump of white bucktail (from the mid-hide, some curl) on the underside for the belly, checking it stays central.
  7. Push the material back, build a small thread dam in front to hold it swept back, and whip finish.
  8. Blend brown marker over the white to darken and merge the colours.
  9. Glue a 6mm tape eye to each side and coat the head with UV resin and cure.
