Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2X-long streamer hook (Fulling Mill 1715), 8
  • Thread White/natural 100 denier GSP

Materials

  • Rabbit/zonker strip (back) Natural/olive rabbit zonker strip (1 strip)
  • Cactus/fritz chenille (belly, 15mm) Tier's choice (1 length)
  • Polar chenille (collar) Fuchsia polar chenille (1 length)
  • Foam cylinder (5mm) Tier's choice (1 short piece)
  • Deer hair (muddler head) Natural deer hair (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a GSP thread base to the bend; taper the leather butt of the rabbit strip, part and moisten the fur, and secure the strip at the bend with pinch wraps plus a few insurance wraps in front.
  2. Fold the rabbit strip back out of the way and tie in the 15mm cactus/fritz chenille; wrap it forward leaving room up front for the foam and head, then tie off.
  3. Tie in the fuchsia polar chenille and take one to three turns to make a straggly collar, then sweep the fibers back.
  4. Pull the rabbit/zonker strip forward over the top of everything and tie it down with pinch wraps so no fibers are trapped.
  5. Trim a 5mm foam cylinder to a shallow angle with the point cut off, and tie the flat face on top so it seats under the coming head to control buoyancy.
  6. Spin and pack deer hair in the front space to form a muddler head, then trim it to shape and whip finish.
