Reference Recipe

  • Hook 4x-long streamer, 4-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Conehead Gold cone (1, sized to hook)
  • Oval / flat tinsel or braid Gold oval tinsel (1 strand for body)
  • Marabou plume Olive, black, white or yellow marabou plume (1, for wing)
  • Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (4-6 strands)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (3-4 for topping)
  • Deer hair Natural deer hair (1 clump for collar/head)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold cone onto the hook, small end first, and seat it against the eye. Start the thread behind it.
  2. Wrap a body of gold tinsel or braid from the 75% mark back to the bend and forward again, stopping short of the cone.
  3. Tie in a marabou wing on top, roughly one and a half shank lengths long, then a few strands of pearl Krystal Flash and three or four peacock herls over the top as a topping.
  4. Cut, clean and stack a clump of deer hair. Lay it across the shank just behind the cone, take two soft turns and pull tight so it flares and spins.
  5. Add a second clump if needed to fill the collar, then pack it all back tight against the tie-in.
  6. Push the packed deer hair forward against the cone, whip finish behind the cone and cement.
  7. Trim the deer hair to a muddler collar and head, sweeping the tips back over the body and rounding the front against the cone.
