Run the 12/0 thread through tyer's wax before you start it, then lay a short thread base on the size 14 hook and cut the tag off.
Measure a shank length of poly yarn, bind it in for the wing, snip the butts off at a long angle and wax the thread again before securing the rest of the butts down.
Stand the yarn up, split the fibers into two equal halves and figure-8 them into divided wings. Figure-8 wraps make the best wings here, but go gently with the yarn. Snip out any wayward fibers.
Stack the tips of a bunch of Moose Hock, transfer the measurement and bind it on top for the tail. Cut the butts away at a long angle, staggering the cuts rather than snipping them all at one spot so the underbody tapers; it will be covered in dubbing anyway.
Dub Primrose natural dubbing onto the thread and wrap the body all the way up to the wing.
Tie in the hackles, a grizzly and a brown in the original; this variant uses dun grizzly. Bring the thread forward, then grab both feathers and wrap them together as one collar, and snip the excess away.
Pull the hackle back and take a couple of half hitches in front of it to push and hold the fibers swept back.
Clean the head up, whip finish, and add a little gloss coat head cement.
