Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook (e.g. TMC 100), 18-22
  • Thread Gray 12/0 (50 denier)

Materials

  • Razor foam or 1mm sheet foam Gray foam (1 thin strip, hook-gap wide)
  • Life-Flex / spandex White uni stretch (1 short length (post))
  • Dry-fly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread mid-shank and lay a base back toward the bend.
  2. Trim a thin gray foam strip to about hook-gap width and bind it on top of the shank at the bend so about one shank length projects back as the foam shuck/body tag.
  3. Wrap the thread forward under the foam to the 75% mark and bind the foam down there to form a segmented body section.
  4. Tie in a short white spandex post upright at the 75% mark and stand it up with thread turns.
  5. Wind a grizzly hackle paraloop-style around the base of the post, 3-4 turns, then secure so it splays flat for flush flotation.
  6. Trim the front foam so it stops short of the eye, whip finish behind the eye, and add a tiny drop of cement.
