How to tie it
Wet a fingertip to pick the orange glass bead off the bench, slide it onto the dry fly hook and remount the hook. Start the orange thread at about the 75% point, which gives you a mark to start and stop materials against, then wrap back toward the barb.
Slide the bead back to just above the barb, bring the thread behind it, take a wrap and come forward again to lock it in place as the egg sac. Whip finish and cut the orange thread off.
Reattach with the Lt. Cahill thread and wax it. Spin Superfine dry fly dubbing on in thin layers and make several passes to build the body up to the same diameter as the bead. A little dubbing on a lot of thread gives the tightest noodle.
Tie one strand of Mirage Flashabou, three strands of hot orange Krystal Flash and three of lime green forward, then fold them all back over and bind them down. Folding doubles the strand count and makes the underwing far more durable. Trim the tips back to the bend of the hook.
Cut a clump of bleached Stimulator Deer Hair, hold it by the tips and comb it from the tips down to clear the underfur, then stack it. Use the hook gap as your gauge for how much hair to take.
Lay the wing on top so the tips reach the bend, make two soft wraps and tighten. Then work forward, pulling a few butt sections back at a time and wrapping into the crease each time, until you reach one eye-width behind the eye. Check everything is sitting on top of the hook.
Cut the butts at an angle as close to the hook as you can. Tying the wing in this way leaves a clean ramp to seat the hackle and thorax on.
Tie in a prepared medium dun Hen Hackle on your side of the hook, sized one smaller than the hook and about as long as the thorax plus a pinch, laying the stem back down the ramp.
Put a little dubbing on the thread and wrap the thorax from the bottom of the ramp straight up and back down again, leaving room for the head.
Wrap the hackle down through the thorax, tie it off on your side of the hook, build a neat little head, whip finish and add a drop of cement for durability.
