Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 12-16
- Thread Yellow or tan 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Glass or plastic bead Orange slotted tungsten bead (1 (egg sac at the bend))
- Fine dry-fly dubbing Pale yellow dubbing (pinch (body))
- Elk or deer hair Bleached/tan elk or deer hair (small clump (wing))
- Dry-fly hackle Ginger or grizzly dry fly hackle (1 feather)
How to tie it
- Slide a small orange bead to the bend of the hook and start thread in front of it to lock it in place as the egg sac.
- Dub a slim pale-yellow body forward from the bead to the 75% mark.
- Optionally palmer a ginger or grizzly hackle through the body, then tie off at 75%.
- Stack a small clump of bleached elk hair and tie it in as a low caddis-style wing extending to the bend.
- Trim the butts to a short head stub at the eye.
- Whip finish behind the eye and add a drop of cement.
