Reference Recipe

  • Hook Tactical jig hook (e.g. Firehole 520), 12-18
  • Thread Black or to match 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Matched to color or gold (1, sized to hook)
  • Coq de Leon or hackle fibers Natural/dun coq de leon or hackle fibers (few fibers (tail))
  • Ice dub / sparkle dubbing Bright (chartreuse, orange, pink, purple, etc.) (for body)
  • Wire or flash rib Contrasting flash (1 length)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead on wide slot first and seat it behind the eye of the jig hook; start thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a short sparse tail of Coq de Leon fibers at the bend, about a shank long.
  3. Bind in a length of rib at the bend, then dub a bright, buggy sparkle-dubbing body forward to the bead, keeping it a touch scruffy.
  4. Counter-rib the body in 4-5 open turns to segment it and add flash, then tie off the rib behind the bead.
  5. Pick out a few dubbing fibers along the body to add movement and sparkle.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
