Note: Contested against a published dressing: Indicator (bright orange foam dot) and barred rubber legs match ours. The body does not. Source: Fly Fish Food — "Morrish Hopper", Dry Fly Tutorials (pattern by Ken Morrish) — https://www.flyfishfood.com/blogs/dry-fly-tutorials/morrish-hopper
Classic Recipe
Hook 2x long dry, 6-12
Thread Tan 6/0
Materials
Body Cross-cut foam strips, segmented (built up)
Legs Barred Sili legs with foam knee (2 pairs)
Indicator Bright foam dot (top)
Underwing Web wing or poly (optional)
How to tie it
Mount the 2x-long hook and lay a thread base. Bind a cross-cut foam strip down at the bend as the underbody base.
Build the segmented body by folding and lashing the foam forward in stacked cuts, Morrish's technique. Pinching the thread into each segment so the body looks jointed.
Leave the foam extending past the bend for the body/tail overhang, then tie down the front to lock the abdomen.
Tie in a barred Sili leg on each side, folding to create the kicking bend, then a second pair. Two pairs total splayed out.
If using, add a web-wing or poly underwing flat over the back for silhouette.
Fold the remaining foam forward to form the head/thorax and bind it just behind the eye.
Tie a bright foam dot on top as a sighter so you can track it, then whip finish underneath and cement.
