Egg · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved-shank jig or scud/pupa hook, 12-14
  • Thread White 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold or silver slotted tungsten bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Mop chenille (microfiber mop finger) Cream/white mop chenille (1 finger)
  • Hare's ear or UV dubbing Tan/cream dry fly dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead on wide slot first and seat it behind the eye.
  2. Start thread behind the bead and run a flat base back to the 60% mark and return.
  3. Bind one cream mop finger at the 60% mark with the plump tip extending one shank length past the bend, riding on top of the shank.
  4. Advance over the butt in tight touching wraps to pin it down, stopping just short of the bead.
  5. Dub a thin cream collar to fill the gap to the bead, keeping it sparse.
  6. Whip finish against the bead and cement.
