Moore's Mudskipper Weighted

Streamer · Carp · Largemouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap streamer/bass hook, straight eye, 8
  • Thread Olive (or ginger/black) 6/0

Materials

  • Dumbbell eyes Black/silver dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
  • Dragon tail (squirmy/soft tail) Olive ostrich herl (1)
  • Round rubber legs Olive/barred rubber legs (2 pairs)
  • Rabbit strip (collar) Olive rabbit zonker strip (1 short strip)
  • Ice Dub (head) Olive ice dub (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Bind a pair of dumbbell eyes on top of the shank one eye-length behind the eye, figure-8 tight so the fly rides point-up, and cement.
  2. At the bend, tie in a Dragon tail on top of the shank, one-and-a-half to two shank lengths long. This soft tail creates the swimming action.
  3. Tie in two pairs of rubber legs at the mid-shank, splayed out to the sides.
  4. Tie in a short crosscut rabbit strip and take 2-3 wraps as a breathing collar behind the eyes, sweeping fibers back.
  5. Dub a small ball of Ice Dub around and in front of the eyes to form the head.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye, snip, and cement.
