Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard/streamer hook, straight eye, 4-8
  • Thread Tan (or to match) 6/0

Materials

  • Dumbbell eyes (tungsten for deep, brass for high) - (1 pair)
  • Bucktail or craft fur (wing/belly) Tan and white bucktail or craft fur (2 small clumps)
  • Flash Pearl/copper flash (few strands)
  • Dubbing (optional collar) Tan dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Turn the fly point-up and tie a sparse clump of tan bucktail or craft fur on top of the shank behind the eyes as the wing, about one-and-a-half shank lengths long.
  2. Add a few strands of pearl or copper flash along the wing.
  3. Flip and tie a shorter clump of white bucktail on the underside as the belly, so the fly rides with the wing riding up.
  4. Optional: dub a small tan collar in front of the eyes to bulk the head.
  5. Whip finish at the eye, snip, and cement the head and eye wraps.
