Reference Recipe

  • Hook Trout-spey shank with stinger hook trailer, Trailing hook size 4 on a 25-27mm shank
  • Thread Brown 10/0

Materials

  • Shank - (25-27mm)
  • Trailing hook + wire loop - (size 4)
  • Wire rib / connector Orange-copper wire rib connector (1 length)
  • Senyo's Laser Dub (butt/tail) Sculpin olive (pinch)
  • Flashabou Copper/gold flashabou (few strands)
  • Ice Dub (head/collar) Olive brown ice dub (pinch)
  • Small eyes Yellow mcflylon (1 pair (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the shank and rig the trailing hook on a doubled loop of wire, lashed along the shank so the hook rides just off the back; secure the loop with tight wraps and cement.
  2. At the rear, tie in a stacked butt of Senyo's Laser Dub reversed and folded back to form a bushy tail/butt about one shank length long.
  3. Add a few strands of copper/gold Flashabou along the sides, kept sparse.
  4. Tie in the connector wire and spiral it forward as a rib to lock the rear materials, ending mid-shank.
  5. Build a dubbing loop of Ice Dub (or stack more Laser Dub) and wrap a full, brushed-out collar toward the front, sweeping fibers back.
  6. Optional: figure-8 a pair of small yellow eyes just behind the front, then dub a small head over the wraps.
  7. Whip finish at the front of the shank, snip, and cement the head.
