Reference Recipe

  • Hook 4XL-6XL streamer, straight eye, 2-6
  • Thread Black (match body) 6/0 or 3/0

Materials

  • Cone or dumbbell (optional) Black/gold cone or dumbbell (1)
  • Lead-free wire underbody - (10-15 wraps)
  • Marabou Black (or olive/white) marabou (2 plumes)
  • Flash Krystal Flash pearl (few strands)
  • Chenille (medium/large) Black chenille (1 length)
  • Saddle hackle Black saddle hackle (1 long feather)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a cone to the eye if using one, then lash 10-15 turns of lead-free wire over the shank for a deep-diving body and cover with thread.
  2. At the bend, tie in a full marabou tail about one-and-a-half shank lengths long, then add a few strands of flash split around it.
  3. Tie in a long saddle hackle by the tip and a length of chenille at the bend.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to just behind the cone/eye and tie off, building a fat body.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward over the chenille in 5-7 evenly spaced turns, tie off behind the cone, and stroke the fibers back.
  6. Build a thread collar (or seat the cone), whip finish, and cement.
