Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Curved midge/scud, 20-24
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Thread body Black thread (as needed)
  • Wire rib Silver wire (1 strand fine)
  • Wing/thorax White poly or glass bead (small)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and wrap a thin, smooth thread body back to the bend and forward again.
  2. Tie in fine silver wire at the bend and wrap the thread body to just behind the eye.
  3. Counter-wrap the silver wire forward in evenly spaced ribs and tie off, helicoptering to break it.
  4. Add a small white poly-yarn wing tuft (or glass bead thorax) just behind the eye to suggest the emerging midge.
  5. Build a small thread thorax/head and whip finish.
