Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger/scud (e.g. TMC 2487), 18-24
  • Thread Black 16/0 or 8/0

Materials

  • Stripped peacock quill (Polish quill) Natural/black peacock herl or dark dubbing (1 quill)
  • Thin UV resin - (coat)
  • CDC feather Natural dun cdc feather (1 tip)
  • Fluoro Fiber or poly White fluorofibre (few fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread mid-shank and run a smooth, thin base back to the start of the bend. Keep it slim, this fly is all about a skinny profile.
  2. Tie in a stripped peacock quill at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns to build a segmented abdomen up to the 70% mark; tie off and trim.
  3. Coat the quill body with a thin layer of UV resin and cure it for a glossy, durable segmented look.
  4. Tie in a single CDC tip as an upright wing at the 70% mark, standing slightly forward, about one shank length tall.
  5. Add a few white Fluoro Fiber strands over the CDC as a high-vis sighter, matched to the wing length.
  6. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and snip. Trim the wing tips level if needed.
