Materials

  • Bead Black bead (One, 3.0mm (sized to the hook))
  • Mojo yarn (body) A10 mojo yarn (One strand)
  • Squirrel or hare's mask dubbing (collar) Gray superfine dubbing (A small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a 3.0mm black bead onto a size 16 Demmon G603 and mount the hook.
  2. Start 12/0 Nano Silk behind the bead and lay a smooth thin base back around the bend to the rear of the hook.
  3. Tie in a strand of Mojo yarn in color A10 at the rear and bind the tag forward under the thread base so the underbody stays smooth.
  4. Wrap the yarn forward in touching turns to just behind the bead, building a slim, slightly tapered body, and tie it off; trim the excess.
  5. Spin a small pinch of gray squirrel or hare's mask dubbing onto the thread.
  6. Wrap two or three turns of the dubbing immediately behind the bead to form a scruffy collar and pick the guard hairs out with a bodkin.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement or resin.
