Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet-fly / streamer hook, 6-12
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Red hackle fibers or floss Red hackle fibers (short tuft (tail))
  • Wool or floss Black floss (body)
  • Oval tinsel Silver oval tinsel (rib)
  • Grizzly hackle Grizzly hackle (1 (throat/collar))
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (wing)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2-3 strands (head))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook, run the thread to the bend, and tie in a short red tail.
  2. Tie in silver oval tinsel for the rib.
  3. Wrap a slim black wool/floss body forward to about two-thirds of the shank.
  4. Rib the body with the silver tinsel in even open turns and tie off.
  5. Wrap a grizzly hackle as a soft collar and sweep the fibers down as a throat.
  6. Tie a wing of pheasant tail fibers over the body extending to the hook bend.
  7. Form a head with 2-3 wraps of peacock herl and whip finish.
