Thread Camel (tan) 8/0
Materials
Tail Gold middle (~10 wood duck fibers)
Rib / abdomen overlay Black ostrich herl (micro tubing)
Body Camel/tan (tying thread, tapered)
Split case (wing case) Yellow mottled turkey (1/16 in. foam strip)
Thorax / legs Dark gray rubber legs (ostrich herl)
How to tie it
Start camel thread behind the eye and wrap back to just before the bend.
Tie in about 10 wood duck fibers so the tips extend roughly half the body length; bind forward to mid-body and trim.
Cut the tip of the black micro tubing at a 45-degree angle to reduce bulk and tie it in right at the bend.
Build a tapered thread body, slim at the tail and fatter toward the head, leaving room behind the eye.
Wrap the micro tubing forward in evenly spaced open turns for a ribbed body; secure about three-quarters of the way to the head and trim.
Tie in a thin strip of yellow foam by the tip at the front, on top of the shank.
Tie in a gray ostrich herl by the butt and take 2-3 wraps toward the eye for the thorax; tie off.
Split the ostrich fibers to the sides and pull them down as legs; take thread wraps to set them.
Pull the yellow foam forward over the thorax under tension, tie it off behind the eye and trim the excess flush.
Whip finish, then color the edges of the yellow foam (sides, front and back) with a black marker, leaving yellow showing on top; trim the ostrich legs to length.
