Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Down-eye streamer hook (2XL-3XL), 4
  • Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

  • Cone head Gold cone (1 (sized to hook))
  • Marabou Golden olive marabou (tail)
  • Ice chenille Golden olive gel core micro fritz (body)
  • Crystal Flash Pearl / tea (few strands over tail)
  • Superglue n/a (to seat cone)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold cone onto the hook up to the eye, then start the thread behind it and wrap a base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a golden-olive marabou tail about one shank-length long at the bend and trim the butts.
  3. Fold a few strands of pearl/tea Crystal Flash over the thread on top of the tail and secure, trimming it roughly to tail length.
  4. Tie in a length of golden-olive ice chenille at the bend.
  5. Put a drop of superglue behind the cone, then wrap the ice chenille forward in touching turns, packing the last wraps firmly into the back of the cone to seat it straight and even side-to-side.
  6. Tie off the chenille tight behind the cone, add a couple of half hitches or a whip finish, and trim.
  7. Add a drop of cement to the thread wraps behind the cone to keep them from unwrapping.
