Reference Recipe

  • Hook saltwater, standard to short shank, 4-8
  • Thread tan 6/0

Materials

  • Bead chain or small dumbbell eyes Silver bead chain eyes medium (1 pair)
  • Mink zonker strip Tan/pink mink zonker strip (1 strip)
  • Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (few strands)
  • Mono or wire antennae Clear articulation wire or heavy mono (2)
  • Dubbing Tan dubbing (pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Tie the eyes on top of the shank near the front so the fly rides hook-point-up over the flats.
  2. At the bend tie in a couple strands of mono for antennae and a few strands of pearl flash for the whiskers, extending past the bend.
  3. Tie in the tip of a mink zonker strip at the bend so the soft fur forms the shrimp tail and body.
  4. Wrap the mink strip forward in touching turns, stroking the fur back each wrap, up to just behind the eyes.
  5. Dub a small tan head, figure-eighting around the eyes, then whip finish and cement.
  6. Trim any stray fur to a clean shrimp silhouette.
