Mini Trout Slider

Streamer · Trout · Intermediate · 3 versions

Note: Contested against a published dressing: MISMATCH. The real Mini Trout Slider is an articulated two-hook fly (front size 2, rear size 4 on Senyo intruder wire) with tan/white marabou, gold Ice Dub body, tungsten streamer eyes and a stacked deer-hair head. Reference Recipe

  • Hook streamer, 4XL, 4-8
  • Thread olive 6/0 or GSP

Materials

  • Marabou Olive/white marabou (1-2 plumes)
  • Flash Pearl/copper flash (few strands)
  • Schlappen or saddle hackle Olive schlappen or saddle hackle (1-2 feathers)
  • Deer hair or dubbing Olive ice dub (for head)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at mid-shank and tie in a marabou tail about one-and-a-half shank lengths long with a few strands of flash.
  2. Tie in a schlappen feather and palmer it forward a few turns as a soft collar, then sweep the fibers back.
  3. Advance to the front third of the shank.
  4. Spin or stack a clump of deer hair (or dub a bulky collar) to build a bullet-shaped head, packing it back against the body.
  5. Whip finish at the eye and trim the head to a rounded, tapered slider shape, flat below and domed on top so it pushes water and dives.
  6. Add a drop of cement to the thread head.
