Reference Recipe

  • Hook saltwater, standard shank, 6-8
  • Thread tan 6/0

Materials

  • Bead chain eyes Silver bead chain eyes medium (1 pair)
  • Calf tail or craft fur White/tan calf tail or craft fur (1 small bunch)
  • Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (few strands)
  • Chenille Tan/pink chenille (short length)

How to tie it

  1. Tie the bead-chain eyes on top of the shank near the eye so the fly rides point-up on the flats.
  2. Wrap thread back to the bend and tie in a sparse calf-tail or craft-fur wing one to one-and-a-half shank lengths long, with a few strands of pearl flash.
  3. Tie in a short length of chenille at the wing base.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward, figure-eighting around and in front of the bead-chain eyes to build the soft 'puff' head, then tie off behind the hook eye.
  5. Whip finish and add a drop of cement to the head.
