Streamer · Smallmouth Bass · Largemouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer or jig, 6-10
  • Thread brown 6/0

Materials

  • Dumbbell or bead eyes Brass dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
  • Rabbit strip or marabou Rusty brown (1 strip)
  • Rubber legs Brown/orange round rubber legs barred (4-6)
  • Ice Dub or crawdad dubbing Rust-brown ice dub or crawdad dubbing (pinch)
  • Krystal Flash Copper flashabou (few strands)

How to tie it

  1. Tie the dumbbell eyes on top of the shank a short way back from the eye so the fly rides hook-point-up like a crawfish backing away.
  2. At the bend tie in a short rabbit-strip or marabou tail (the claws) about one shank long, plus a few copper flash strands.
  3. Add a pair of rubber legs splayed at the tail base for antennae.
  4. Dub a shaggy rust-brown body forward, stopping behind the eyes, and add another one or two pairs of rubber legs mid-body.
  5. Cross the thread over and around the dumbbell to lock it, dub a small head in front of the eyes, and whip finish.
  6. Pick out the dubbing to a buggy crawfish profile and cement the head.
