How to tie it
Start UTC 70 in wood duck on a dry fly hook and tie in 5mm UV Straggle at the rear. Two materials is the whole recipe. This is a play on the classic elk hair caddis stripped to its bones.
Wind the Straggle forward almost to the hook eye, leaving a small gap. The Straggle fibres take the place of a palmered hackle and hold the fly in the film.
Tie the Straggle off, trim it out and tidy the front so the wing has clean ground to sit on.
Stack a small clump of deer hair, pull it out of the stacker and lay it on top with a firm pinch wrap. The pinch is what stops the hair spinning around the shank.
Secure the wing, pull the butts up out of the way and whip finish behind them.
Gather the butts together and cut them off square for a short caddis head. Fish it during an adult sedge hatch.
