Mini Krystal Shrimp

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook curved scud/emerger hook, 14-18
  • Thread olive 12/0

Materials

  • Lead-free wire Natural lead wire (6-8 turns (optional))
  • Krystal Flash Pearl flashabou (4-6 strands)
  • Scud/shrimp dubbing Olive-gray scud shrimp dubbing (pinch)
  • Clear scud back / thin skin Clear scud back thin skin (1 strip)
  • Fine wire rib Gold wire (1 strand)

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base along the shank; if you want it to sink, add 6-8 turns of lead-free wire mid-shank and cover it.
  2. At the bend tie in the gold rib and a strip of clear scud back, then a few strands of pearl Krystal Flash pointing back as a short tail wisp no longer than the gap.
  3. Dub a plump, slightly humped body forward with olive-gray dubbing, following the curve of the hook.
  4. Pull the scud back over the top under tension and bind it down at the eye so it forms a shiny shellback.
  5. Counter-wrap the gold rib forward in 5-6 even turns, segmenting the body and pinning the shellback, then tie off and snip the excess.
  6. Pick out a little dubbing beneath for legs, whip finish, and coat the shellback with a thin layer of head cement or UV resin.
