Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Streamer hook, Daiichi 2151 (or a short jig/streamer hook), fitted with a SMALL sculpin helmet, #6 (mini) up to #4
  • Thread Tan or olive (match) 140 denier flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Head Small Fish-Skull Sculpin Helmet (color to match, sculpin/olive or gray) (1)
  • Tail Barred marabou (olive, brown or tan) (1-2 plumes)
  • Flash Pearl or copper Krystal Flash (few strands)
  • Body Senyo's Laser Dub / Ice Dub (matching), in a dubbing loop, brushed (as needed)
  • Pectoral fins/collar Yellow (dyed) mallard flank feathers, splayed at the sides (1 per side)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the small sculpin helmet onto the hook and rest it forward at the eye (you will lock it in at the end); start the thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a barred marabou tail about a shank-plus long, with a few strands of flash.
  3. Build the body with Senyo's Laser/Ice Dub in a dubbing loop, wrapping forward and brushing it out, up to behind where the helmet will sit.
  4. Tie in the yellow mallard flank feathers as splayed pectoral fins/collar, one per side.
  5. Slide the sculpin helmet back into place over the front, lock it with thread and superglue behind it, whip finish.
