Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1X-2X long nymph or jig hook, 10-14
  • Thread black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead (optional) Black or gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Marabou (tail) Black or olive marabou (1 small clump)
  • Estaz/cactus chenille (body) Black or olive estaz cactus chenille (1 strand, small)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a bead to the eye if using one, then start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a short, sparse marabou tail at the bend, about one shank long, so it breathes on the swing.
  3. Tie in a strand of small estaz at the bend.
  4. Wrap the thread forward to the bead, then palmer the estaz forward in touching turns to build a full, sparkly body.
  5. Tie off the estaz behind the bead, snip the excess and stroke the fibers back.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
