Classic Recipe

  • Hook Short-shank streamer with tungsten cone, Firehole 811 (or similar), #4-6
  • Thread Black 6/0 Veevus

Materials

  • Head Tungsten cone or bead (Hareline) (1)
  • Tail White rabbit (Zonker) strip (1 strip (about a shank long))
  • Body/wing Black rabbit (Zonker) strip, palmered (1 strip)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (2 strands per side)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten cone onto the hook to the eye.
  2. At the bend tie in a short white rabbit strip as the tail about a shank long, fur to the rear; separate the fur about 1 in back so the hide seats cleanly (too much fur under the wraps makes the strip spin).
  3. Tie in the black rabbit strip at the same point.
  4. Wrap the black rabbit strip forward in touching turns to the cone, stroking the fur back each turn, then fill behind the cone with a wrap or two; tie off.
  5. Tie in 2 strands of pearl Flashabou on each side.
  6. Whip finish behind the cone, cement.
