Reference Recipe
- Hook 2X-3X long dry/hopper hook, 8-14
- Thread tan 6/0 (140 denier)
Materials
- Foam (body) Tan fly tying foam (1 strip)
- Deer hair (underwing) Natural deer hair (1 small clump)
- Rubber legs Tan/barred rubber legs (2 sets)
- Foam (indicator tab) Orange foam strip (small tab)
How to tie it
- Start the thread and lay a base along the shank, then tie in a strip of tan foam at the bend for the body.
- Bind the foam down the shank in 2-3 segmenting wraps, leaving the butt extending a half-shank past the bend so the abdomen rides low in the film.
- Tie in a small clump of deer hair over the body as an underwing, tips reaching the end of the foam.
- Fold the foam forward over the deer hair and bind it down at the 70% mark to form the body and wing case.
- Knot a set of rubber legs to each side so they splay out, binding them at the 70% tie-down point.
- Fold the remaining foam back to leave a short head and add a small orange foam tab on top for visibility.
- Whip finish under the foam head and add cement to the tie-down wraps.
